Service Summary

The Southeastern Camp Conference program co-chair works with the conference committee and the eastern region ACA professional development manager to provide leadership, vision, guidance, and support to the Southeastern Camp Conference that result in quality sessions and professional development resources during the conference.

Knowledge and Experience

  • Ability to connect and engage local volunteers.
  • Ability to maintain an open line of communication with the professional development manager.
  • Prior experience working in work groups/committees to meet expected outcomes/goals.
  • Be an active member with ACA and have a basic understanding of ACA resources.
  • Knowledge of the local/regional camp community needs. 

Participation Includes

  • Working cooperatively with the ACA professional development manager in the design, development, and implementation of professional development speaker recruitment.
  • Attending planning meetings with the program sub-committee and the conference planning committee.
  • Staying informed of emerging professional development issues and trends that affect the camp profession and industry.
  • Attending the ACA, Southeastern camp conference – full cost of conference registration is covered. 

Essential Responsibilities

Assist with the recruitment of a diverse selection of conference session proposals.

  • Support the conference committee in selecting keynote speakers.
  • Identify conference speaker/topics that would be useful as articles on ACA’s website or the camping magazine.
  • Support session presenters with any AV or room needs during the conference.
  • Write thank you notes for conference presenters.
  • Support with checking-in conference attendees during the conference. 

Time Commitment

  • Serve at least a 2-year term that allows for seamless transfer of event(s) and institutional knowledge.
  • Participate in conference committee meetings once a month during the months of February – October. 
  • Meet with the program sub-committee once before session proposals are scored and once after the scoring. 
  • Meet once with the eastern region professional development manager and conference co-chairs to review final session selections.
