Thank you for considering a position on our NEW Central Region Conference Steering Committee!

We are excited to launch this new conference as an opportunity for professional growth and member engagement serving the entire upper Central Region. We are currently seeking applicants from the following local offices for these new Committee positions: ACA, Great Rivers, Indiana, Michigan, Northland, Ohio, St. Louis, Wisconsin, as well as ACA, Illinois.  If this opportunity interests you, or you know someone who would be a great fit, let us know!

About the position:

The steering committee members work with the steering committee co-chairs, planning committee members, and the ACA PD manager to plan and implement specific elements (program, culture/community, operations, media, communications and marketing) of the NEW Central Region Conference. 

 

What You’ll Do   

Who You Are   

  • Assist with the planning, coordination, and promotion of the Central Region Conference (CRC) annually.  

  • Work with the professional development manager to analyze return on investment/return on influence during budget cycle.  

  • Provide information and customer service to interested groups and individuals about upcoming ACA professional development opportunities (both local and national).  

  • Contribute to the annual planning process and implementation of professional development goals for the CRC. 

  • Attend all steering committee meetings and functions (in person or virtually) and be prepared to contribute meaningfully.  

  • Provide updates to the steering committee co-chairs for reporting at steering committee meetings. 

  • Coordinate and provide leadership for subcommittee meetings (in person or virtual) throughout the planning year.    

  • Assist with recruiting and appointing a subcommittee of three to four people to help plan, implement, and evaluate a targeted element of the event. Assign responsibilities to members and maintain records of planning documents for future use. 

  • Coordinate and facilitate with co-chair, steering committee members, and/or sub-committee members as necessary to keep lines of communication open.   

  • Follow all applicable ACA policies and procedures relevant to professional development events and efforts.  

  • Avoid conflicts of interest as well as identify and disclose any possible conflicts of interest.  

  • Communicate with ACA staff and other volunteers in a timely and professional manner.   

An active member of ACA.   

Able to lead a team and facilitate work in individuals and groups.   

Able to connect and engage local volunteers including recruiting volunteers to support the [Central Region Conference].   

Experienced in leading work groups/committees to meet expected outcomes/goals.   

Experienced in working with adult learners.  

Informed on ACA professional development resources and programs, as well as emerging professional development issues and trends.  

Knowledgeable of the regional “picture” of camp and basic understanding of camp culture(s) within your region, including access to local resources and engaged individuals.    

Adaptable and flexible: responds positively to change, embracing and using new practices or values to accomplish goals and solve problems.  

A leader: inspires and motivates a team, fosters collaboration, and cultivates a positive environment focused on achieving shared goals.   

A communicator: articulates ideas clearly and persuasively, listens actively, and builds strong relationships with volunteers, staff and camp professionals.    

Adaptable: Responds positively to change, embracing and using new practices or approaches to accomplish goals and solve problems.   

Supports Organizational Alignment: aligns the direction of services provided at the local office level with the mission, vision and values of ACA.   

 

Time Commitment 

The Steering Committee Member commits to: 

  • Serve for an initial year on the committee and, if a member chooses to continue to serve, serve for a staggered term as assigned (one- or two-year) to create different groups of participants. In subsequent years, serve a two-year term with a maximum of three consecutive terms. 

  •  Requires a time commitment of four to six hours per month, on average.  

  • Attend all steering committee and assigned subcommittee meetings and functions (in person or virtually)
