The Volunteer Engagement Committee is an operational committee of the American Camp Association, appointed by the Chief Executive Officer (CEO)
Former local office or affiliate volunteer leader (LCOL or board member) or equivalent experience
Knowledge of and passion for the American Camp Association
Active member of ACA
Volunteer leadership experience
Experience with strategic thinking, high-level planning and developing implementation plans
Ability to lead through informal channels and influence
Identifying needs and providing recommendations
Facilitate the development of tools and materials to support the cultivation and recruitment of volunteers to assist with the operations of the Association
Encourage and assist Local Councils of Leaders and Affiliate Boards of Directors to develop plans to foster field office leadership to become future association-wide leaders
Facilitate the development of appropriate orientation and training tools, materials, and experiences for volunteers
Provide opportunities to support and engage volunteers across the Association
Serve as a volunteer-to-volunteer liaison between field volunteers and other leaders of the Association such as the CEO, COO, staff, and other committees/task forces
Assist in identifying the needs of field volunteers and provide recommendations to the COO
Encourage all programs, services and functions of ACA to communicate with and involve field volunteers when interpreting and implementing policies, procedures and guidelines
Develop and implement as system for volunteers to evaluate their experience, including a measurement of volunteer satisfaction, and make recommendations to address any needs or concerns
Provide leadership over the development of local recognition and awards for volunteers
Ensure local leaders are engaged in the National Awards program, encouraging the submission of nominations
Assist in the development and implementation of the Field Office Operations Guide
Assist in the implementation of an annual self-assessment tool for Local Councils of Leaders
Assist in the implementation of the Association’s Strategic Plan with regards to volunteers and any and all appropriate areas
Work with ACA Staff and volunteers to analyze objectives and key results of volunteer development efforts
Keep current on information pertaining to: ACA, Inc. growth strategy initiatives, VEC priorities and, VEC Chart of Work
Follow all applicable ACA policies and procedures
Facilitate the implementation of the Field Office Operations Guide
Engage with assigned LCOL chairs and regional directors regularly and complete annual field report for the May meeting
Attend all Volunteer Engagement Committee meetings (in person or virtual)
The volunteer engagement committee member commits to:
Serve a two-year term, renewable for up to three consecutive terms (six years total)
Attend Volunteer Engagement Committee meetings. The committee meets in person for 1.5 days, in the spring. In person at the National conference, and on occasion when there is a field training in the fall that VEC members participate in. Virtual meetings are held at least quarterly
Project work with committees and task forces is on-going. Approximately 2 - 4 hours per month
Meet virtually with assigned LCOL chairs and regional directors at least three times a year
Communicate with ACA Staff and other volunteers in a timely and professional manner
