Description:

Thank you for your interest in serving as a volunteer reviewer for the American Camp Association's Character at Camp Grant Program!

ACA is looking for camp and youth development professionals to serve as reviewers for Wave Two of the Character Grant Program. Volunteers would receive training in September 2026 and then review applications during October and November 2026. Time commitments can be adjusted, depending on availability. Volunteer reviewers will gain insight into how grant proposals are evaluated, common elements of strong applications, youth development and program impact evaluation, and the state of the camp industry.

Timeline & Commitment:

  • September 1 – 30: Training materials distributed; 1–2 hours of self-paced asynchronous training to be completed at your own pace before September 30.
  • October 2 – November 9: Grant applications assigned and reviewed in Foundant; approximately 10–15 hours total. We understand schedules vary. If you're able to take on more, we'd love the extra help, and if your availability is more limited, we'll do our best to work with you.
  • November 9: All reviews due.

Reviewer Requirements:

  • Background or experience in a relevant field, including but not limited to youth development, camp, education, social-emotional learning, nonprofit management, program evaluation, or grant writing. Undergraduate and graduate students in related fields of study are also welcome to apply.
  • If you or an organization with which you are affiliated has submitted a Character at Camp grant application this cycle, you are still welcome to volunteer as a reviewer. However, you must disclose this in the final application and will only be assigned to review applications from grant pathways other than the one your camp applied for.
  • Willing to complete ACA's Conflict of Interest disclosure and agree to the Reviewer Code of Conduct.
  • Committed to completing all asynchronous training steps before the review window opens and submitting all assigned reviews by November 9.
