The Emerging Professionals in Camping (EPIC) Committee is an operational committee of the American Camp Association. The committee and the Chair are appointed by the Chief Executive Officer (CEO). In partnership and coordination with the staff and ACA volunteers, the EPIC committee members with the EPIC Chair to meet the needs of EPIC members, connecting them to ACA, local professionals, and resources and elevate emerging leadership voices in ACA and the field of camp.
Self-identified emerging professional (or recent emerging professional).
Knowledge of and passion for the camp industry and the American Camp Association
An active member of ACA
Volunteer leadership experience, preferably within ACA.
Experience with strategic thinking, high-level planning, and developing implementation plans
Ability to contribute through informal channels and influence
Ability to identify needs and provide recommendations
Work with the chair and the committee to develop and plan the EPIC pre-con event at the ACA National Conference
Assist in the creation of tools and materials to support the cultivation and recruitment of volunteers to assist with national and local EPIC events
Provide training and engagement opportunities for EPIC volunteers across the Association
Encourage and assist Local Councils of Leaders and Affiliate Boards of Directors in developing plans to support emerging professionals in camping for their local areas
Working with the EPIC committee and local office EPIC chairs, develop opportunities for emerging professionals to network and learn based on their identified needs
Ability to listen, analyze, think clearly and creatively, work well with individuals and groups, balance volunteer tasks with other commitments, manage time, and adhere to deadlines
Ability to complete quality projects/initiatives in a timely manner
Cultivate and recruit potential future EPIC volunteer leaders
Possess honesty, be sensitive to and have tolerance of differing views, be friendly, have a responsive and patient approach, have community-building skills, possess personal integrity, and possess dedication to ACA
Work with EPIC Chair, EPIC committee, ACA Staff, and volunteers to develop an annual plan of work in alignment with ACA’s priorities to meet the needs of EPIC participants
Keep current on information pertaining to: ACA, Inc. growth strategy initiatives, EPIC priorities, and EPIC Chart of Work
Follow all applicable ACA policies and procedures
Attend all EPIC Committee meetings (in person or virtual)
EPIC Committee Members commit to:
Serve a two-year term, renewable for up to three consecutive terms (six years total)
Attend EPIC Committee meetings, support the ACA National Pre-conference EPIC event, and any other events planned by the committee.
Project work with committees and task forces is on-going. Approximately 2 - 6 hours per month
Meet virtually with local office EPIC chairs at least twice a year and the EPIC committee at least quarterly
Communicate with ACA Staff and other volunteers in a timely and professional manner
